Here's a truck that I've been really excited about and finally had the chance to see with my own eyes: the New Way RotoPac! The RotoPac body has one major feature that sets it apart from all other North American refuse trucks - a powerful auger packer! Rather than the traditional reciprocating ram packer that most automated side loaders feature, the RotoPac uses a single large corkscrew auger to break down refuse in the hopper and force it into the body, creating very densely packed loads. While auger-type compaction systems are fairly common in a lot of European countries, the technology is virtually brand new here in the States. After finally having had a chance to see this one in person, I can safely say that I am thoroughly impressed! This truck seems to be able to handle just about anything you can throw at it!
Seen here is a small-sized New Way RotoPac body mounted to a single-axle medium-duty Freightliner M2 cab and chassis. It's small size allows to maneuver tight cul-de-sacs as well as narrow country lanes with ease, both of which are demonstrated in this video. The automated arms flexible grippers allow for the easy handling of a variety of carts of all shapes and sizes, from 32 to 96 gallons. Anyways, I could go on about all of this truck's features and how much I love it all day, but without further ado, watch now as this little beast chugs and grinds it's way through a typical residential garbage route! Enjoy!
I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the driver of this truck for letting me shoot this video of his awesome new truck!
