Talk about a lucky catch!
Hands down, my favorite automated refuse body of all times, the Heil Formula 7000 paved the way for automated garbage collection in the 1980's! The 7000-series automated arm revolutionized automated garbage pick-up with it's simple, yet robust design. Seen here with the classic Heil Formula body, and paired up with a stunning Peterbilt 310 cab and chassis, this truck is a sight to behold, and a true blast from the past!
I've known of this particular truck's existence for some time, and have hoped to catch it on film ever since. This has proven difficult though, as this old beauty rarely runs. The town's main truck is a much newer Heil DuraPack 7000 paired up with a Peterbilt 320, which Mike and I were able to film a couple of years ago. I decided to venture back down there, and as luck would have it, and much to my surprise, I saw this truck mobbing across an intersection right as I came into town! So naturally, I pursued, and as it turned out, they were running both trucks that day in order to catch up from Labor Day. I am incredibly excited to finally be able to share this truck with my fellow garbage truck enthusiasts, and I still can't believe my own luck at being able to catch this elusive beast!
I can't even begin thank the driver enough for kindly allowing me shoot some video of this truck!
