During my very first trip to California way back in 2012, I was lucky enough to catch one of MCSD's old diesel Volvo Xpeditor/Heil Rapid Rail's in action. In the 5 years that have since come and gone, MCSD has replaced their entire fleet with new CNG trucks, so I decided to go check them out on my most recent trip. This truck is the oddball of the fleet, a Mack TerraPro LEU cab and chassis paired up with a Heil Rapid Rail body. While MCSD has elected to stick with Rapid Rail for their fleet, this is the only Mack; the rest are paired to CCC LET2 chassis... more on that later! Though this is a newer CNG truck, it is still plenty entertaining to watch! Lots of "double dumps" in here too, so lots of bonus style points for the driver! I hope you all enjoy the video!
As always, a huge thank you goes out to the driver for demonstrating his skill and professionalism!
WhiteGMC WXLL - Leach Beta Rear Loader
Now that I've shared a couple of Sanitary Disposal's residential trucks as well as one of their roll-off trucks, here's a look at how commercial waste is handled! This WhiteGMC WXLL with a Leach Beta rear load body handles commercial garbage around the city of Hermiston, OR. Rear load dumpsters are handled using the arm-style latch system, a very popular setup for commercial rear loaders in Oregon. If memory serves me, this is the only Leach rear loader in the fleet. Most of the commercial trucks are Heil Formula 4000's, and there is also a Formula 5000, all on WhiteGMC and/or Volvo WXLL chassis.
Of course, a huge thank you goes out to this very friendly driver and to all of the wonderful people at Sanitary Disposal for allowing me the opportunity to get some video!
1982 American LaFrance CTC - Heil Formula 7000
60 miles up the road from my house lies the City of Granger, WA, a small community, with a population a little below 3,500. The city's slogan is "Where The Dinosaurs Roam" and as you drive through the main roads, many of the city's parks, schools, businesses, and public facilities are decorated with life-like giant metal statues of all kinds of dinosaurs, hand-built by the city's Public Works Department. At the south end of town lies the city's Public Works Department, and parked in the back corner of the Public Works lot is this absolute beauty: a 1982 American LaFrance CTC with a Heil Formula 7000 refuse body!
Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the folks at the city's Public Works Dept., myself along with fellow YouTubers Mike, Alan, and Alex, were able to come out to film and photograph this beautiful truck in October of 2016, being kindly demoed for us in the Public Works yard! At that time, we were also told that the truck ran every year during the city's clean-up week. Alan and I were able to return in May of 2017 to check out the truck again during the clean-up! The clean-up was a treat to watch; residents bring unwanted household junk out to the streets, and city crews sort out all of the scrap metal, appliances, and brush. The remaining debris is loaded up into 300-gallon refuse containers that are then collected by the American LaFrance/Heil 7000! It was an experience that I won't soon forget!
As for the truck itself, it was originally built as a Formula 7000 demo unit for the Heil Co. In 1984, the City of Granger purchased the truck as the city's first automated garbage truck, making them one of the first cities in Washington to adopt automated collection! The American LaFrance CTC (Commercial Truck Chassis) was produced only for a short time in the early 1980's in order to try and expand the business beyond fire apparatus. Most CTC's were paired up with refuse bodies, and as far as I'm told, this may be the last fully operational CTC in existence!
I definitely cannot even begin to thank the folks at City of Granger Public Works enough for the overhwelming kindness, generosity, and hospitality we were shown over the two days we spent there. The amazing wealth of knowledge I absorbed from speaking with everyone is beyond priceless, and words cannot even express my gratitude!
I really hope that everyone enjoys my perspective of this unique truck! All shots in the Public Works yard were filmed in October 2016, all clean-up shots were filmed in May 2017.
"The Pink Garbage Truck" CCC LET2 - Heil DuraPack 7000
Continuing my series of SSC's trucks, this weeks video features their most special truck! This Crane Carrier LET2 with a Heil DuraPack 7000 body features a unique pink paint scheme and graphics to help raise Breast Cancer Awareness in the community! The truck is seen here handling a residential garbage route in the beautiful forest scenery of Sudden Valley, WA! I hope everyone enjoys the video!
I would like to send a huge thanks out the driver of this truck for letting me shoot some video!
Volvo WXLL - McNeilus Century Series AutoReach
Since 1996, the McNeilus AutoReach has grown to become one of the most common and easily recognizable automated side loader bodies on the road today. While the packer body has undergone several re-designs over the past 20 years, the AutoReach arm has remained true to it's original form, featuring an 8-foot reach and a unique side-to-side swivel feature. This video features the Century Series AutoReach body, also commonly referred to as the "first generation" AutoReach, and was the original build version of the AutoReach. Seen here paired with a Volvo WXLL cab and chassis, this truck still slams back route like a champ, going nearly 20-years strong. Watch here as this truck handles a residential garbage route on a beautiful desert morning in the heart of California's Coachella Valley. Enjoy!
As always, a huge thanks goes out to driver of this truck for providing excellent service and for allowing me to grab some video of this awesome truck!
